TEST DRIVE MEME Prompt 1: Arrival Your first "day" Vernos Bay - at least, you assume it's daytime. The people are all out and going about their business, walking dogs, driving cars, operating their shops. There's no sunlight, however. No wind, no weather at all. Just this weird twilight, and you, a confused stranger who has no idea where they are or how they got here. Better find someone to help you get acclimated, and fast; people are starting to stare. Prompt 2: Festivus for the Rest of Us A festival seems to have broken out in the streets in honor of one of the gods. As the day wears on, things become rowdier and more jubilant. I would if I could, but sadly, I can't. We don't know who did it. I can offer you a place to stay though. We've got blankets and games and I would love to hear all about what you do when you're not kidnapped into some weird godplace.

[She winces. Hating to be the one who has to tell her this. Really, couldn't someone else tell him that the love of his life (other than River Song) isn't here?] It might not be here. It's, complicated, but you might not have been brought with it.

Really? [he shoves his hands in his pockets and eyes her] And how do you know that? [since she seems so conveniently full of information for someone randomly met on the street. Or, perhaps, not so random]

[She sees that look. She knows it well, and she can't blame him with all the bad information she's been giving him.]

Because the last thing I remember before showing up here was holding onto a friend of mine. She didn't come with me, so it stands to reason that what you're looking for might not have come either. A lot of us didn't come with what we had on us.

Hmmm. I feel like you're not being entirely truthful with me. [he gently beeps her nose] Or at least holding something back. But what I can't figure out is why. [he peers at her] Who are you anyway? What's your role in all this?

[When he beeps her nose she scrunches it, the crease between her eyebrows crinkles for a moment. Why was he so amazing? Right, because he's The Doctor and he was always amazing.] Felicity Smoak. [One of your biggest fans. She holds out her hand instead of saying that.] Fellow kidnapee.

The Doctor. [he takes that hand and shakes it] I'd say the pleasure is mine but despite the wine I'm not very happy.

[he smiles nevertheless]

So tell me, Felicity Smoak, what do you know about this place?

[Oh god, she's shaking hands with The Doctor. Why can't she tell Ray about this? It's kinda unfair.] Not much. We've all been kidnapped. The residents - [She points to the ones reveling without worry.] either don't know anything or won't say anything, and we're apparently expected to take thrones. If we don't then things don't work. Like, plants wouldn't grow until someone took the throne of agriculture.

I can't say I'm interested in that. Well! [he claps his hands together and rubs them] Let's find some trouble to get into and see who comes out of the woodwork. Anything particularly forbidden to do?

Other than asking the natives about things? Not really. Even that just gets avoidance and weird looks.

Maybe defacing a temple, but we sort of need those.

Do we need them? Why is that?

[because honestly, while he usually wasn't into defacing local religious artifacts, it's not difficult to do something that won't cause long term damage and he also isn't particularly fond of getting kidnapped. To say they had it coming was merely part of the consequences]

If someone doesn't take the throne for say, fire, we get no fire. Nothing burns or smolders or anything.

Well then everyone should go on strike and see what happens. Anything to get attention. Anyway I want to see one of these temples come along, come along.

[he goes and then stops, whirling, hand to his forehead]

Or hear her. [he taps his ear] She's rather shrill when she's got a mind to it. And she usually does.

Yes, funny that. Oh well. She'd probably rather not when all is said and done. But that means I'm here by my lonesome and that's never any fun at all. Well it can be fun but not usually. [he wrinkles his nose]

You know I never really did fancy being a hermit. Oh it's an exotic lifestyle and all that but finding inner peace is not really my sort of thing.

Yeah, you don't ... seem the type. [She's trying not to stare. Trying really hard, but it's hard.] Not everyone is outgoing, but there are Steph and I. We're pretty personable. Rey and Poe too, so you don't have to worry about hermetic life.

You know, young lady, you seem awfully eager to fold me into your little group. If I wasn't full of charm, good looks, and entirely too much class for anyone's good, I would start to suspect something.

[Ok, any other given time there would be totally fangirl and non-altruistic reasons. Here, however, they need to stick together as best as they can. Keep each other human - or, Gallifreyan, in this case. Actually, scratch that, most Gallifreyans were assholes. Keep him Doctor-like.] It's more of a kidnapee solidarity thing. We all want to go home, some of us are just more organized about it.
