Prompt 1: Arrival Your first "day" Vernos Bay - at least, you assume it's daytime. The people are all out and going about their business, walking dogs, driving cars, operating their shops. There's no sunlight, however. No wind, no weather at all. Just this weird twilight, and you, a confused stranger who has no idea where they are or how they got here. Better find someone to help you get acclimated, and fast; people are starting to stare. Prompt 2: Festivus for the Rest of Us A festival seems to have broken out in the streets in honor of one of the gods. As the day wears on, things become rowdier and more jubilant. Join in the fun or hide from the carousing multitudes. Prompt 3: Choose your own adventure! Set up your own prompt for others to tag into! |

"It has been a very long time since I believed in gods - and even in this case, I have no choice." Nikas' voice was patient, and when he managed a glance up at her, his smile was grim. "The one who has taken the throne as the Most Benevolent and Mighty God of Healing has seen to it that no one will heal without a token offering of prayer. Modern medicine can not erase the whims of that..."
He paused, clearly meaning to call the Most Benevolent and Mighty God of Healing something crude. Instead, he finished lamely, "Individual."

This world might be worse than her own when it came to deities, luckily this place seemed primed for mischief and such things were right up her alley. Her gaze moved from doctor to the patient and back again.
"So, this God of Healing," she began, "Any idea who he is?"

There was no shortage of thrones, no shortage of debauched mortals who wanted to elevate themselves to godhood, and thus no shortage of bacchanals.
"I don't know his name, of course; I arrived after he staged his coup on that throne, shed his identity, and took up the mantle of..." A gesture of his hand indicated that Nikas had no intention of repeating the moniker again. "He is indeed a jerk. A petty one, at that."
Planting his hands on his thighs, he pushed himself to his feet and began to brush dirt from his trousers. He kept half an eye on the woman simply to show she had his attention. "May I assume you're new?"

"So you can literally become a god simply by stealing the title?" She rolled her eyes, "That's inviting all sorts of trouble."
Valdis pushed off the wall and offered a hand to the man, "You can. My name is Valdis."

"And thankfully, it isn't as simple as stealing the title. It requires deposing the previous god and assuming his or her throne. And, of course, convincing the priests to accept your claim, though that isn't as hard as it should be. They're particularly malleable people."
That troubled him; most of the people in Vernos Bay seemed just a little too happy about having a multitude of gods, many of whom were of questionable moral fiber.

Her gaze dropped to the man on the ground, wondering if the God of death was going to turn up or if this sleeze of a Medical God was going to do his thing.
"I'll bet the previous God or Goddess of Healing didn't appreciate being deposed."
But wasn't that part of the fun of it all?
"I take it you aren't from around here originally either?"
